Talita Jackson
Talita Jackson, a visionary dance educator and choreographer, has dedicated her life to empowering communities through the transformative power of dance. A Richmond, Virginia native, her passion for creativity and the arts led her to earn a BFA in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005.
For over two decades, Ms. Jackson has been a driving force in dance education, leaving an indelible mark on the Richmond community. She began her teaching journey at local community centers and dance studios, even founding a dance team that continues to inspire and nurture young talent to this day. As an educator for Richmond Public Schools, she designed innovative curricula that fused dance with interdisciplinary learning, enriching the minds of high school students in grades 9-12.
Today, Ms. Jackson serves as the dynamic Director of the City Dance Program, where she crafts extensive dance training and programming that reaches audiences across the Richmond community. Her leadership extends to her role as Co-Director of the City Dance Theatre, a prestigious, multi-award-winning youth dance company celebrated for its artistic excellence and international achievements.
Renowned for her choreography, Jackson has received countless accolades, including the esteemed Choreographer’s Cup Award, which honors her exceptional creativity and dedication to her craft. Her artistic vision even earned her a choreography credit for the Netflix original film Burning Sands, further cementing her reputation as a creative powerhouse.
In addition to her community-focused work, Ms. Jackson is an esteemed adjunct faculty member at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she continues to mentor and inspire the next generation of artists. Her teaching legacy also includes roles at the University of Richmond and a residency at Mary Baldwin University.
A respected leader and advocate for the arts, Jackson was honored by NBC12 during Black History Month as a pillar of her community. She proudly represents Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, exemplifying their principles of service, scholarship, and sisterhood.
