Kori Withers

Board of Directors

Kori Withers is a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles. She studied piano as a child and began writing her first songs as a teenager. By age 17, she was playing acoustic guitar and composing, inspired by her early influences Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, and her father, Bill Withers. After graduating from Columbia University, Kori earned an MFA at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Appearing in 2009 in Still Bill, a documentary film about Bill Withers, Kori performed her original song “Blue Blues” and began developing her own following.  She has performed on stage with legends Hal David, Charles Fox, Marilyn and Alan Bergman, and contemporary artists Ed Sheeran, Amos Lee, Aloe Blacc and Gregory Porter. A co-written song, “Live Like A Warrior,” was recorded by singer-rapper Matisyahu in 2012.  Booker T. Jones invited Kori to record the duet "Watch You Sleeping" for his album Sound the Alarm.  Kori was a writer/performer in Sally Taylor’s multimedia collaborative arts exhibit ConSenses, exhibited throughout New England over a three year period.  A personal highlight for Kori was performing at Oprah Winfrey’s Legends Who Paved The Way Gospel Brunch in 2015, which was later broadcast on the OWN Network.

As a singer, songwriter and producer, Kori is actively engaged in extending the musical legacy of her father, Bill Withers. As a parent, she is joyfully immersing her daughter in the arts while introducing a new generation to her family's musical treasures.
